Google Lens
Google’s camera search, which now includes homework help. This is what replaced Socratic.
The Socratic app is gone. Its old address, socratic.org, now describes Google Lens, including step-by-step homework help for math, history, chemistry, biology, physics, and more. Lens is a general Google product, not a kids’ tutor.
Best for
A parent who wants a quick explanation of a problem they are looking at with their child — not a daily tutor for a young kid alone.

Partly verified
The Lens page on socratic.org does not list a price. Homework help there is part of Google Search and the Google app. Whether a newer AI Mode experience requires a paid Google plan was not stated on that page.
Teaches, or gives the answer?
Lens homework help points at explainers, videos, and web results, and it offers step-by-step help. A 2026 Google Search post also describes a Lens flow that explains a photo of student work and coaches the next step. It can still be used to grab a solution.

Not verified
Lens is not a child-directed product. We did not find a COPPA notice written for homework help. A parent who lets a child use a Google account should use Google’s own family controls, which we did not re-review here.
What we could not verify
- socratic.org currently markets Lens and its homework section. We did not find an official Google post that says “Socratic is shut down” in those words. The old app is no longer what that address offers.
- A Google blog describes a newer interactive Lens learning experience rolling out in English. We did not test whether it is on a given phone.
- Not listed as a product for kindergarten through 2nd grade.
