Mathway
Math solver from Chegg. You type or photograph a problem and it returns the work.
Mathway solves math problems and also covers chemistry and physics. The site says you can use it for free. A Premium subscription is supposed to unlock more of the written steps. Official pages disagree about how much of the work is free.
Best for
A parent checking a method on algebra or higher, not a young child using it alone.

Mathway’s Premium terms, effective December 15, 2023, list step-by-step access at $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year. The public homepage FAQ says Mathway is free, including step-by-step solutions, and that an optional subscription unlocks the full work for every step. The App Store listing also shows a $19.99 monthly SKU and a $79.99 annual SKU.
Teaches, or gives the answer?
The product solves the problem you type or photograph. Steps can help a child study a method. The primary job is still the solution.
Kid safety and privacy
Not verified
Mathway is not marketed as a children’s product. We did not find a COPPA kids’ mode in the pages we read. Assume a parent account, not a 3rd grader’s own account.
What we could not verify
- Free versus paid is inconsistent across Mathway’s own homepage and its Premium terms. Read the checkout screen.
- Basic math is in the subject list, but the tool is a solver. It is a weak choice for K–2, so those grades are left off.
